As a License Marriage and Family Therapist, my goal is to practice multicultural evidence-based interventions to foster personal growth and achieve your goals while discovering new avenues of coping skills towards wellness.

As a Qualifying Supervisor, my goal is to create a multicultural learning environment to teach, supervise, and mentor the new generation of counselors in their professional development across a wide range of competencies.

I am fluent in both English and Spanish.

My Story

Debbye Lopez is a Board-certified licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Qualified Supervisor in the state of Florida. She received her bachelor’s degree in Ministerial Leadership with a minor in Psychology and a Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy. Mrs. Lopez is currently a doctorate candidate at Liberty University. In 2023, she launched her counseling business, Discover the Journey LLC. In addition, she is a professor at Florida Christian University. She facilitates multigenerational group and family therapy sessions in Orlando's inner-city areas, supporting low-income families from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Mrs. Lopez has over 25 years in human services and ministry with children, adolescents, couples, and families. She is gifted with her calm demeanor and ability to build rapport creating a safe and nonjudgmental space for growth. She believes a person has the innate ability and potential to thrive. Mrs. Lopez is known for her competencies with multicultural dynamics and inner-city populations. She utilizes eclectic clinical and holistic theoretical modalities. Mrs. Lopez specializes in crisis, trauma, life transitions, depression, anxiety, and couples and family dynamics. She is fluent in English and Spanish. Mrs. Lopez is passionate about walking the journey of life with clients, empowering them to overcome their weaknesses, and discovering their strengths from within.

Currently, she is clinical director and supervisor of her own practice, Discover the Journey LLC. Mrs. Lopez practices the discrimination model as a qualifying supervisor. The discrimination This model allows her to shift roles as a teacher, counselor, consultant, and supervisor while infusing multicultural skills. She utilizes positive regards while teaching and supervising, giving feedback and providing a safe learning space for further counseling competency development. She enjoys professional relationships with supervisees, as they explore their counseling identities and theoretical framework.

Mrs. Lopez enjoys walking alongside individuals in their therapeutic journey. If you need a counselor, you are probably doubtful, confused, and in need of assistance with your feelings and problems. Mrs. Lopez is known for her love and compassion towards others. She is a wife, mother, and grandmother. She is a mentor and a friend. She has been married for 21 years to her husband Francisco and has three adult children. Mrs. Lopez is family-oriented and loves spending time with her granddaughter, Joy. She loves reading books, traveling, and dancing. She believes in living life to the fullest. Fun fact, Mrs. Lopez loves the Home Depot store and doing remodeling and DYI projects.
